About

Art that engages communities and celebrates the beauty of the every day.

Lynden Nicholls

I am often described by others as being creative yet logical. I don’t mind that.

I am a doer and a strong believer in social justice with a prominent concern for First Nations recognition and reconciliation, the future of humanity, animals and the environment. My three personality traits that drive me are curiosity, integrity and straight-talking. Oh, and quite a lot of whimsy!

I see detail around me all the time, in nature, in cityscapes and in the everyday. My passion is to enable people to take interest, pride and joy in their world and the things that they might normally not notice or take for granted.

Different projects require different media. It might be photography, soundscape or theatre. The context and situation always guide me and I have the skill, experience and contacts to bring projects to fruition.

I like my performance projects to be free and available to everyone; working in the community rather than in an ivory tower. Many of my photographic projects are turning into historical documents of the ordinary as we speak, making the ordinary special.

An honours degree in philosophy and a lifetime of dance underpin my approach. Dance taught me to see the abstract behind the obvious and to be open to physically embodying my emotions. Philosophy gave me an ability to process information and to clarify intention into action.

I am always up for a new project.

(I have a special affinity with river otters, by the way.)
